Sat Sri Akal! Welcome to the Sikh Center of Delaware online Last Updated on 12/06/2011 01:05 AM History The First State's First Gurdwara (Gateway to the Guru) was established in 1990 in Elsmere. The congregation, in the early years was limited, as the Sikh population in Delaware was nowhere near the numbers today. The Gurdwara existed in Elsemere from 1990-early 2011. For over two decades, Sangat in and around Delaware - while worshipping in a house converted into a Gurdwara in Elsmere - persistently endeavored to locate a suitable place for their holy and spiritual pursuits. Finally, by Guru's grace, the present location (1107 S. Dupont Hwy in New Castle, DE) was bought in June 2011. All the believers have and are making consistent efforts to make this Gurughar (house of Guru) as heavenly as possible. Anyone wishing to contribute to the ongoing effort is very welcome.
Purpose Sikhs believe that God is Satnam (Truth is His name), and to reach Him, any human needs Guru's blessing. Gurdwara (Gateway to Guru) is a Sikh shrine where Guru's grace can be evoked by true and selfless service. A religious abode where everyone is welcome and is equal irrespective of his/her color, creed, caste, class, country of origin, gender, age, et al. Apart form serving the spiritual needs of approximately 100+ Sikh families in the area, the Sikh Centre of Delaware is committed to augmenting the Gurdwara's role in propagating Sikhism. Some of the key objectives of the Gurdwara are: 
Services The Gurdwara Sahib has daily morning and evening services with Asa Di Var, Rehras Sahib, Kirtan, and Katha. Sunday services are performed from 10.30AM to 1.00PM. Noteworthy preparations and arrangements are made on other special occasions of observance and celebration as per Sikh maryada (code of conduct and convention).
